We offer counseling, EMDR, and
Neurofeedback therapies to adults.

We often work with chronic depression and/or anxiety, chronic worry, difficulty in relationships, adult ADHD, trauma, OCD, post-concussive symptoms, addiction, and attachment issues. Sometimes symptoms come from difficult phases of life and sometimes they come from a life-time of challenges. We can work through both.

Sometime symptoms come from stressful phases of life when things are changing, there’s uncertainty, or a single traumatic event. We can work through those tough periods of life. Symptoms can also come from a lifetime of experiences. The fact is, adults have developmental trauma too. Our early life experiences can affect the way we see ourselves, others, and relationships for the rest of our life. But we don’t always have to struggle, we can heal and grow even if the hand we were dealt wasn’t even close to ideal. If you have a past trauma you’re trying to work through, are struggling with a relationship, or if you’re battling depression, anxiety, OCD, a concussion, or addiction, give us a call.

WHAT WILL THE PROCESS LOOK LIKE?

1 Free 20-minute Consultation

That way you can make sure we feel like the best fit for you. We’ll ask about your experience with counseling in the past, what you liked, and what you didn’t like. We’ll ask about what prompted you to seek counseling services, and about the goals you have.

2Get Background Information

After that, we’ll have you fill out some background information. Based on our what we see in the history, plus the presenting concerns, we’ll figure out where to start. Is this a situational issue? Is this a pervasive problem? Is it environmental or organic?

3 Recommend Treatment

we’ll decide which approach to take, traditional talk therapy, maybe EMDR if we see an emotional trigger, a negative belief about yourself, others, relationships, or the world, or maybe we’ll look at neurofeedback if we’re dealing with a long-standing issue that you’ve struggled to resolve, like chronic and pervasive depression, anxiety, OCD, emotional instability, or a strong fear response to a non-threatening situation.

4Build Relationships

We spend time getting to know you – because until you feel safe and are able to become vulnerable you likely wont be receptive to the skills we need to work on. Every client is going to go at their own pace and we want them to be in the driver’s seat.

We build a custom approach to treatment that may include, but is not limited to:

We use talk therapy as we start counseling, whether we end up doing EMDR, or neurofeedback, we’ll start here. It helps us understand where your coming from and what your starting point is. If you are simply in a really difficult season of life (parenting challenges, phase of life changes, anxiety over a new job, difficulty with your relationships, depression, etc.), then we’ll start here. We’ll look at patterns with thoughts, emotions, or behaviors. We might use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and look at the way you think and speak to yourself. We’ll utilize self-compassion. We’ll talk about your attachment style and how it has affect your life and relationships. And we’ll name the emotions you have coming up. You have to name it to tame it, even if it’s not the nicest emotion. The ugly emotions have their place too and we’ll wade through that together.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It’s a mouthful, but it’s a brain-based therapy that helps break the emotional connection we have to beliefs or memories. If you have an internal sense that “I’m worthless”, then we’re going to look at the memories that have reinforced this belief about yourself. We’ll start with the more recent events, look at the worst memories, and we’ll float back as far as you can to the first time you felt that way about yourself. Was it when dad left? Or the first time mom told you, “You were a mistake.”, or the first time you had a friend betray you? Those memories hurt. They also stick with you. With EMDR, the memory will always be there, but it won’t always sting.
After getting a better understanding of your life and circumstances, if we find there is a pervasive or chronic condition, such as a life-long battle with depression, anxiety, OCD, or addiction, or if you have early childhood trauma and you have always had strong emotional responses to stress, then we’ll look at using neurofeedback to help regulate your brain. Your struggle might not be a “you” issue. It might be a brain issue.
