Let’s get ready to rumble!!!!!

Play is powerful! It’s good for babies, tots, teens, and adults. We all need play in our lives! And there are many different types of play: structured play, therapeutic play, FREE play, and rough and tumble play! It’s all important. Some play, like coloring or making jewelry, teaches fine motor movements. Rough and tumble play uses all those gross motor movements. Free play ignites the imagination and creativity! And structured play teaches rules, boundaries, and outcomes. But my favorite thing about play is this: you can’t play and feel unsafe at the same time. When kids are fully engaged in play, when couples are fully engaged in play, they’re connected and feel safe. Play is the foundation of healthy relationships. So whether your relationship with your teen is a little rocky, if your child has experienced a trauma and seems timid, or if you and your spouse are in a rut, try making time for play. It can take time to feel safe again, so it’s okay if you need to take baby steps. Go at a pace that works for everyone, and of course, have fun ????
